Myra Defends Public Authority in Austria

The latest wave of attacks on authorities and organizations in Austria poses major challenges for cybersecurity teams. CERT.at issued a warning on September 16 about the attacks, which have been ongoing ever since.

An important government agency successfully fended off a massive DDoS attack with the help of Myra's defense systems, so that it had zero impact.

Highly Automated Defense Systems Prevent Damage

Over a period of 24 hours, attackers attempted to overload the authority's systems using various methods. Thanks to Myra's certified security infrastructure, the attacks were immediately detected and repelled at all network levels. The intelligent automation processes enabled a lightning-fast response.

We are pleased to report that government operations were able to continue without interruption throughout the entire attack period. All online processes targeted by the attackers remained available and functional at all times. This is a clear indication of the effectiveness of the Myra solutions, which ensure seamless protection without disrupting day-to-day operations.

“Our defense systems took fully automated action against the attackers and blocked their attacks at all relevant network layers. Our defense mechanisms work across different network layers. This means that not only can attacks be blocked at Layer 7, depending on their strength, but the knowledge gained from these layers is also passed on to the defense systems of the underlying layers or other upstream systems. This means that malicious traffic can be blocked right there.”

“This approach ensures that malicious traffic is always blocked at the points appropriate to the situation. Based on similar attacks on targets not protected by Myra, we can safely conclude that the authority would have been effectively 'shut down' for at least the duration of the attack without our protection systems,” adds Christof Klaus.

The fended off attack is part of a nationwide wave of attacks that has now also spread to EU organizations. The attackers are apparently systematically trying to paralyze official and institutional websites. The Myra experts are working closely with national and international security authorities to further contain the threat.
