The challenge
Meeting high data protection requirements
In 2022, Calenso pursued a strategic realignment to acquire larger and more demanding organizations, particularly in the public sector, as customers. To do so, the Swiss company had to meet the highest data protection and data security requirements. However, its security service provider at the time was unable to meet these requirements, which led to critical questions and lengthy discussions in negotiations with potential customers. It became clear that a legally GDPR-compliant security solution was necessary to gain the trust of the target customers and to meet the demanding market requirements.

The implementation
Application Security and Performance Boost
Since the end of 2022, Myra has been protecting several Calenso domains against cyberattacks at application level (layer 7) using DDoS protection and a Web Application Firewall (WAF). Implementing the security solutions into the existing infrastructure was quick and smooth, as they do not require any additional hardware or software.
The technical setup is possible by simply adjusting the DNS entry via the CNAME record. Alternatively, the authoritative DNS server can be transferred to Myra by importing existing zones. Once the customer's TLS certificates have been stored, Myra can use deep packet inspection to scan the traffic for suspicious activity and block malicious requests. In addition, the Myra Network Operations Center experts set WAF filter rules for granular traffic control and protection against new types of threats such as zero-day exploits.
The underlying Content Delivery Network (CDN) improves the delivery of all static and dynamic elements of Calenso's webpages and minimizes traffic on Calenso's own servers. By limiting CDN delivery to servers in Europe, Myra fulfills the high data protection requirements of Calenso and its customers.
